Re: Exhaust bandage
Hi Jack. Very much like your alternator/belt cover but it appears to obstruct at least 50% of your oil cooler!

Re: Light weight Caravan?
Here are 2 lightweights seen at Stoneleigh 16 One by MEV and one offered as a kit by Canyvan (I think) Possibly a bit heavy but good for ideas... maybe? Also not sure about the aerodynamics of the kit? Shouldn't the sloping end be at the front? MEV van.JPG Canyvan.JPG Canyvan aluminium caravan kit....

Re: Suggestions needed Please
Hi Ray. Sorry to hear of your woes. Curious about what ignition system you have. I’ve had a Lumenition fitted on my LOMAX 223 for about three years now and once installed and set up then that’s it, no more adjusting needed. The oil cooler is in front of the timing box, so not having to faff around ...

Re: Engine rear seal leak
You can’t really check if the reed valve in the oil filler is working by looking. You need to use a manometer. If it’s been there for a long time chances are it could have failed and crank case pressure is too high. Best option is a ‘foo foo’ in my opinion. I would ALWAYS use a Purflux oil filter wi...

Re: Electronic ignition
Hi Colin. Sorry to hear about your ignition failure. To be honest, 18 years isn’t bad! ;) Anyhow, my Lomax 223 had a Boyer Bransden system fitted when I bought it seven years ago. It seemed to run ok but there was still the problem of the points needing periodically resetting (due to cam lobe wear) ...

Re: Lomax Incidence of cast rocker cover on cooling
I use a smaller oil filter (Ford Fiesta) on the same 3/4" unf adaptor in the winter. I find with the oil cooler blanked off with Tank tape and using 10/40 oil the engine quickly reaches operating temperature, correct temperature and pressure was maintained on a 70 mile trip last weekend. Jack Hi Ja...

Re: 223 ignition advance and retard spec
My 223 is running with a Lumenition system, a Boyer Bransden coil and NGK B7HS spark plugs. I have to say that I think that it runs rather well. Once set up the system needs absolutely no adjustment. The coil, which comes from Boyer with a heat sink is located onto one of the top bell housing bolts ...

Re: Brake Rattle
Check that no oil has found its way onto the brake pads/disc. Some oil mist could come from the engine breather and work its way backwards. Also, if the inner drive shafts have been greased over zealously some grease could flick up from the sliding splines onto the brake(s). Just worth checking.
