Re: Towing frame

The legislation that applies to the vehicle is that which was in force at the time of its construction or manufacture. My Avion kit was made and built up long before SVA etc. What was required at the time for registration was a weighbridge ticket to prove the vehicle weight. I have all the correspon...

Re: Towing frame

Blackjack never published a gross vehicle weight and I have a weighbridge ticket for my car at 295 kilos. Citroen's last published kerb weight for a 2CV was just 600 kilos - so it's difficult to understand how Pembleton manage to get a weight just 4 kilos under that. Additionally the towing regs tal...

Re: Towing frame

The regulations just refer to the braking system and not which part of the braking system - I have been looking at the handbrake system on my Avion and I think it is possible to either extend the lever ( the one under the bonnet - not the umbrella handle under the dash ) or connect it by a cable and...

Re: Towing frame

If I am towing a vehicle that weighs 300 kilos with a vehicle that weighs nearly 1800 kilos then there is no need whatsover for the towed vehicle to be able to actuate its braking system. Remember I can tow up to 750 kilos in an unbraked trailer. I'd be interested to hear from the DVSA the engineeri...

Re: Towing frame

There is a grey area around exactly what constitutes a trailer, when a car becomes a trailer and whether the advice on independent braking systems means trailers or cars being towed or used as trailers - or not... The advice and the interpretation of the legislation in the two DoT information sheets...

Re: Towing frame

Key issue is the weight difference between the vehicle being towed and the tug, if you're towing your Lomax with a medium sized family car then you should be OK unless the tug is unusually light or the Lomax is unusually heavy. Common sense applies here, if you are towing an unmodified 2CV with a Sm...

Re: Servicing steering arm ball joint

I think Delrin would be perfect and far cheaper than phosphor bronze. The arms are too expensive to replace more than once - much better to replace the bearing cups. When you take them apart it is common to find the cups in perfect condition and the balls oval and heavily scored.

He's going to send me a socket and I will cut it down and weld a bar to it.
