Re: SOLEX CARBS
Rodders, the primary main jet on an 18-26 version of the Solex 26/35 carburettor has an M4 thread, and is seated deep inside its bore, so is not easily visible. If it was actually 'missing in action', your fuel consumption would be horrendous, since the bore without a jet installed would be roughly ...

Re: Top end noise
Rocketman, since you've decided to set the rocker clearances at the minimum value of 0.15mm, probably best to check them regularly, as they will close up with use and the last thing you want is burnt valves which will happen if they've been held off their seats. Since unleaded fuel was introduced in...

Re: suspension can doughnuts
mtvexl23, the answer to this question is 'no', because the Burton video is incorrect and Haynes is correct. Only the setting of the front threaded end-pieces can be carried out with the chassis 'on the bench'. Setting the rear threaded end-pieces should be carried out with the vehicle assembled, it...

Re: Lomax chassis
Rob, from 'day one', almost 30 years ago now, all of my chassis have used this layout, with the 60mm OD crosstubes having 3mm wall thickness, compared to Citroen's 2mm. https://flic.kr/p/2pTQiJ6 Ken Hello Ken. You have confirmed what I suspected. When I built the car many years ago,I remember the ha...

Re: Lomax chassis
Rob, as far as I'm aware, some Lomax chassis used this same detail as early Wheels chassis, on which the carriers for the suspension canisters were cut from scrapped Citroen chassis and welded onto the outer face of the longitudinal frame members. The Wheels chassis of that era were prone to failure...

Re: Blackjack Avion Cold Running Issue
Ian, with the 21-24 version of a Solex 26/35 carburettor, the original primary petrol jet will have been either a 120, or (rarely) a 125. In order to cope with unleaded E5 fuel,it would have needed to be opened up to 127.5, so if you're using E10 fuel, 130 is probably a better bet. Airflow over the ...

Re: Suspension Mount Bolts
2HP, re. "I do think the original hole was probably tapped incorrectly, at least for the OEM bolt, not least because they did not leave an untapped m14 section to mate with the bolt shoulder, i.e., in just the area where it was going to get a hammering when damping the suspension." . I've double-che...

Re: Suspension Mount Bolts
2HP, perhaps it's time to clear up a few inacccuracies? First, the thread size on a damper stud is M14 x 1.50 on the chassis side ( and M12 x 1.25 on the damper side). Next, the damper mounting sleeve should be counterbored 15mm diameter to a depth of 'about' 19mm. I do have some history with these ...

Re: SOLEX CARBS
Ron, if you work out the total cross-sectional area of the venturis on both types of the Solex 26/35 carburettor, you'll find that the earlier version (21-24) has about 1.7% more than the later one (18-26). That's hardly likely to make any difference on the road... ;) . What it did mean was that the...
