Re: Light weight Caravan?
Interesting comment about the chassis plate. I have a Grinnall Scorpion, and although the chassis number is stamped into the frame, there is no manufacturers plate. I have just rung Mark Grinnall to see if he could provide one, and he told me he no longer fits them on his new cars. So perhaps not re...

Re: Light weight Caravan?
There is some confusion here, between braked, and unbraked trailers. With an unbraked trailer, the towing vehicle can pull a trailer of up to 750kgs, or 50% of the kerb weight / unladen weight of the towing car, whichever is less. So a three wheeler weighing 350 kgs unladen, could pull a trailer wit...

Re: Are 'A Frames' without brakes legal?
Don't forget you need a couple of triangles as well as the number plate of the towing vehicle, as your car has now become a trailer.

Re: Are 'A Frames' without brakes legal?
It is notoriously difficult to come up with a complete answer on A frames. My own take, and it is only my opinion, is that the "trailer", being the A frame and the towed car, does not have " a braking system " as described in the Dept of Transport advice. Trailers of less than 750 kgs do not require...

Re: Towing a 2CV / Lomax
I think you are missing the point of my reasoning. The 750kg unbraked limit relates to trailers, not cars being towed. David With respect, your reasoning does not hold any water in the eyes of the law. A towed car becomes a trailer in law, therefore is subject to trailer rules. Therefore it's the G...

Re: Towing a 2CV / Lomax
Therefore the 750 Kg represents the actual weight of the "trailer" as towed. It has nothing to do with GVW. You can put the luggage, tools, spare wheel, seats and anything else detachable in the towing car if necessary to reduce the weight! No, it has everything to do with GVW. The design weight is...

Re: Towing a 2CV / Lomax
Passengers??? This is not a car, this is now a trailer! Passengers are the equivalent of the load in the trailer. Cars, trailers, etc, all have design weights. That's why you need the GVW of the car being towed. With a trailer you add the weight of the trailer empty to the amount it has been design...

[quote="Ken Hanna"]Alternatively, fit a voltmeter, which will prove to be far more useful. ;) Ken/quote] Or, if you don't want another dial on your dashboard, you could fit one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150479033981?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 I have one in my Pemble...

Re: Lomax charging problems
First thing to check is that the fan belt is still in one piece, and actually turning the alternator pulley. Then, is the tension correct. Then you can move onto checking out the alternator, and voltage regulator.
