Re: Lomax 223 Fuel Tank Capacity

In one of these pictures form the Which Kit build articles you can see the vent pipe coming up alongside the filler pipe. The top of it is just out of view. http://webspace.webring.com/people/af/filbyflyer/wk5.htm On second thoughts, your tank may be slightly larger than the 15l standard as it exten...

Re: Lomax 223 Fuel Tank Capacity

My 223 (The Filby Flyer" was the Which Kit Magazine project car for 1994. It used as far as possible the standard Lomax parts. The metal tank looks like yours and has a 15 litre capacity. When I got the car there was an open vent pipe projecting about a foot into the boot space. The problem was that...

Spark plugs

I picked up some B5HS plugs today at a car show for £1 each. They are one step hotter than the recommended B6HS. ECAS recommend B5HS for "short journeys only" (presumably because they might overheat on a long journey). Has anyone got experience with these plugs? Is it that critical? My usual trips a...

Re: Advice needed on running problems and leaking cylinder

Have you checked the slow running jet (on the front of the solex carb)?

Just a thought

Re: Number plates

I agree with Geoff that there is sufficient vagueness in the law here to accept alternative interpretations and we are better off with the flexibility of vagueness than a definitive answer (although DVLA can't give a definitive answer until the interpretation of the regulations has been proven in co...

Re: Number plates

This has been discussed before. The "chapter and verse" is given in the DVLA leaflet INF 104 "Vehicle registration numbers and number plates"which says: For vehicles with new or replacement number plates fitted from 1 September 2001, “3-line” number plates are no longer permitted (except where the v...

Re: Vehicle, engine, and carb types

You learn something new every day! I am obliged to David for the information that SABTVR0 VIN numbers are allocated to kit cars. My Lomax 223 (The Filby Flyer, Which Kit? magazine project car 1994) was built from a 1980 Dyane donor on a replacement chassis. I have a SATBVR0 VIN number stamped on the...

Re: Towing a 2CV / Lomax

I think you are missing the point of my reasoning. The 750kg unbraked limit relates to trailers, not cars being towed. The argument, based on the DfT's own advice not,e is that a car on an A frame is to be treated as a trailer, not as a car being towed. The regs make no reference to the "design weig...

Re: Towing a 2CV / Lomax

That makes sense. Obviously an A frame has to be designed for the maximum loaded weight but (as I read it) the limit in the regs of 750kg for trailers without brakes refers to the actual weight as towed.
