Re: Wire Wheels
Hi all,
I have fitted the new Rimmer Bros 4J - 15" 48 spoke MGA chrome wire wheels (St/St spokes) - fitted the std 2CV Michelin 135 X 15 ZX tyres.
I have to say I am well chuffed with the results. The problem now is that the rear std 2Cv wheel looks so drab - maybe a St/Steel disc is the solution?

Any one got a spare disc going?
I will be attending the Sherborne Castle show next weekend and will post some pictures.
PS just come back from South of France were I bumped into the Czech 2 CV owners club - no one spoke English and my Czech is absolutely nil - no matter we got on fine poking about inside their bonnets and grinning a lot! I believe they were attending the Caux Retro so no doubt we will here more about their travels.
Enjoy the sunshine,
Steve

Re: Wire Wheels
Hi Geoff.
Emailed Duksville - unfortunately they only supply sets of 4.
I will keep an eye out at shows etc in case a single disc is available.
Cheers,
Steve

Re: Wire Wheels
This message is a bit of a tangent on the original thread, but should still be of interest to our readers. Wire wheels seem to be a holy grail for Lomaxers. Knock on wire wheels are expensive, and require special hubs. The advantage is that this set up increases the track. Consideration has to be taken of unsprung weight, but glass fiber cycle wings are also very heavy ,Easily obtainable steel wings are much lighter, and obtainable from trailer and towbar dealers. I have seen on a number of occasions in the past, specials with BOLT on wire wheels. I examined one of these set-ups, and discovered that they were refurbished old Austin seven wheels. I was quite familiar with these in the past, and I identified them by the fact that the unused bolt holes, which were of the hole and slot variety, (so that the wheels could be removed without completely removing the bolts.). These were later considered to be dangerous, and users were encouraged to place large washers over the studs. The wheels I observed had drilled three fixing holes of the correct pitch ignoring the originals, and they look great.
These of course would be light, and in keeping with Morgan tradition, as I don't think Morgan used knock on wheels. The advantage of this system is that one could use them on all wheels, and also carry a wire wheel spare. I don't know of the availability of these old wheels, or if other makes could be used, but the conversion should be easy and worthy of consideration using common sense. Vintage bits are getting more difficult to obtain, but the advantage of this system would be wire wheels all round. Keep up the good work. regards Brian

Re: Wire Wheels
I think that this might work with Ford Model A and Model Y wheels too. They have 5 studs but it wouldn't be difficult to weld up the holes and redrill.
Here's a set of five with whitewall tyres;

Re: Wire Wheels
I have a set of 4 which I would split if I can get rid of them all at once. £20.00 each plus P&P.

To those looking for "Moondisc" trims, there are some GSA trims on ebay at the moment which may or may not be of interest. Item number 151084348297.
