Oversize oil filter for a 2cv engine

Post by woodsy99 » Fri Jul 19, 2013 8:40 am

I understand that it may be possible to fit a larger than standard oil filter to a 602cc engine to slightly increase the oil capacity and therefore help with additional cooling.

Does anyone know what oil filter to get eg Mahle (or similar) product code or from which car? An adaptor may be required and if this is the case what car does this come from and where can one be obtained?

Any advice appreciated

Thanks, Nick

Thanks for the reply Paul, but at the bottom of the link it says that this part is no longer sold - is there any other option?

Nick, Google "Oil filters on a 2CV" as there are a number links to the subject. I know when the time comes to fitting the engine to my Lomax, I shall fit a larger oil filter - whatever some quarters might say.

Hi Lads, I fitted an oil cooler off a mini cooper some years ago. It bolted on the front cross member and I plumbed it in with all spanner fittings and hydraulic piping. The fittings into the crankcase are 16mm with Dowty washers and the mini oil cooler has 3/4 inch to 3/8 bsp adapters. Price for pipes/fittings and crimping pipes to said fittings was £20 Mini cooler £10 from scrap yard. Runs cooler than standard 2cv fitting. regards Badger

Garage Lavrat do the adapter and the filter is from a golf diesel.Google garage lavrat and check out "filtres". Not sure how much postage would be.

Boggy, thanks for the info and Lavrats part nbr is FI2114, priced at 15 Euros . I'll try to get one from them and get it sent to me in Twickenham.

In the meantime do you know which model diesel Golf e.g. engine size/year etc, the larger filter comes from - better still do you know the filter nbr?

Thanks for your help with this and also your advice re fitting a Visa engine and LNA box in response to my other Q

Regards, Nick

Hi Nick
The filter I use is the Mahle or Knecht OC47 if you cannot get this filter make sure you use one capable of dealing with the high pressure of 2cv/Visa/Lna engine.
If you have trouble with postage you can have it delivered here and I'll post it on to you.

Cheers

Boggy
