Rocker cover gasket fitting on Lomax
I thought this would be easy with nice new rubber gaskets . Cleaned off the old homemade gasket material , from both surfaces pasted up with red gasket goo , then lined up surfaces and began tightening up the nut , but of course the gasket spreads / slides itself outwards and distorts . Looks like the Lomax rocker covers dont suit rubber style gaskets , or the job requires more patience to allow one surface to dry out a bit before assembling ? Could the rubber type be meant for the original 2cv rocker covers sitting in a groove ? Anyone know the best gasket for Lomax and the tip for fitting ?
Thanks Aidan
Thanks Aidan

Lomax rocker covers are not straight. Had a pair few days ago and milled 1 mm by places to get something technically correct. Don't use past but superglue the rubber on the cover (I have an old head even to glue original ones). I act like this for years and never had a leak

Thanks Thierry. , that makes sense . The Surfaces on the covers looked a bit uneven . Superglue idea sounds good . Have cut home made gaskets on the large size and will trim edges when gasket goo has hardened . If that doesnt work will use your superglue method on the rubber gaskets .

My base (house and private workshop) is in the middle of Belgium nearby the river Meuse and beside ,or nearly ,Namur. Agricultural area with lots of interesting small roads to drive kitcars.

Re: Rocker cover gasket fitting on Lomax
you could always put a strap around the outer surface to prevent the gasket squeezing out -as original metal return..-and remove strap /jubilee clip/s afterwards...
I always had success with silicone sealant applied both sides to clean surfaces -if they are flat of course...

I use 1200 wet and dry resting on some glass then you will see when the aluminium is flat then the super glue sticks to it well and to the rubber gasket Sorted

Thanks David , and Notsmartcar , for your replies , both are useful. Important to flatten surfaces first . Just got a tiny leak of oil spraying out to sort .
Cheers Aidan
