Wiring a battery cut -out switch to dash.

Post by Portuguy » Thu Dec 11, 2014 10:51 pm

As my last mad Citroen had such a switch , i thought id manage to wire in one on my own to the dash of my present one . I broke into the negative feed from battery but didnt realise the significance of a little green wire coming through bulkhead to join the negative battery clip . So i havent issolated all negative cables in the system .? Not very clever . I hope i havent turned a safety feature into a dangerous one ? Anyway with the key switch in the "on "position its all ok as usual . Just need some tips on what to do next or what not to do . I know not to switch off Red key when engine running .( thanks Jimmy for that tip ). If someone has a simple diagram to show me that would be great .
Thanks again
Aidan

This is the only way to wire a real cut off even with engine return. With this wiring and a multi pole switch even alternator is cut when operated.

Thanks Jimmy for that wiring diagram link . That gives two options and both come off the positive side . Not as easy as it seems . Not sure what a "Main electrical wiring citcuit " looks like ? It would be useful to know what guage of wire woukd be required ?ive already bought a meter and half of pretty heavy guage (half inch thick cable )which ive cut in half . It could now be obsolete .guess ill have to revert to lighter guage wire ,and or get a bit local help .
