Dyane diffed gearbox

Post by rocketronbish » Sun Dec 14, 2014 3:19 pm

Currently have both a 2cv and Dyane box in bits awaiting rebuild. Seems many recommend putting the Dyane dif in the 2Cv box but.....according to my calculations the Dyane box has the highest top gear already so what is/ are benefits of the "mix and match" ..please

Ron,
Easier to put the 2cv innards into the dyane box - should mean that you don't have to re-shim the diff.
2cv box with Dyane Diff will give a long legged box - more so that a straight Dyane box. Don't expect to start off in 2nd gear though! ;)

I had a tall gearbox in the Avion. Soon changed back to a standard one.

I had a long gearbox in the pembleton..as it was lighter than most, it worked really well and gave a good top gear overdrive type of ratio...[with twin dellortos was really effective throughout the range..]
If you look on Cats site at the gear ratios of different boxes you will see the Dianne box was geared for the heavier body...
but add the 2cv ratios onto the diff and it gives a higher set all through...
as mentioned, don't expect to pull away in 2nd -its actually 3rd...

Oh dear; another complication to maintaining a special. How can you identify whether a gearbox has been sourced from a 2CV or a Dyane :?

Whether it comes from a Dyane or a 2CV doesn't present any practical maintenance difficulties

if you lift a wheel ,remove plugs, make a mark on the flywheel and road wheel , turn the road wheel or the engine with handle - the number of turns will distinguish a 2cv or Dianne box.
but can't remember which number of turns is which...
its in Cats 2cv site...
