Hello folks, and happy New year to all!.
Currently running a well used Solex twin choke 24/ 21, fitted to recent rebuilt 602cc, with higher compression pots, 123 ignition, super coil and partially lightened flywheel.
recent spare engine acquired has a grubby 26/18 twin choke Solex.
Question is, which carb is best suited to my engine?
Anyone had any practical experience with both types?
Thanks in advance for any feedback...
Rob.

Re: Which Solex carb?
Ken Hanna will be able to give you advice on this. Given all the other mods, I'd swap it for an SU personally.
Re: Which Solex carb?
Rob,
Ken's advice to me was "the change from the earlier version of the 26/35 carburettor (with 21 & 24mm throats) to the later type (with 18 & 26mm throat diameters) was made by Solex, not Citroen." (see viewtopic.php?f=7&t=688&sid=aa7b01c6333 ... ec67dc8f99)
The inference could be that Solex knew something about improving the performance of the carburetter, hence, the later 26/18 Solex could be better. Also, if you're running a higher compression ratio, a 26 mm choke would enable you to exploit the potential additional power at the top end of the engine speed. The 18 mm choke, I would guess, should make the engine more responsive (than the 21 mm choke) at the bottom end.
Give it a try and see; let us know what the results are.

Hi Rob,
Did you change to the 18/26? I'm considering replacing my 21/24 carb and wondered whether you feel it's been an improvement.

Re: Which Solex carb?
Hello Highwaylass.
I have only just got the car back on the road this week, after a 2 year rebuild, 7 years since last MOt, all went well.
I am running the 21/24 at the moment, just to get a feel for it, and once everything has bedded in, I will fit the 18/26 that I have just got back from Gower and Lee. looks great.
Will keep you posted...

Re: Which Solex carb?
Having run the rebuilt engine for about 300 miles on the old carb, I have now swopped for the 18/26 unit.
Initial feelings are that the engine seems perkier at lower revs, and will pull a little better above 50 Mph.
Some of this improvement may be down to the fact that the old carb was past its best, and the replacement 18/26 has been refurbed, but still I think it was worthwhile...
