Drum brake adjusters

Post by CSC1540 » Mon May 30, 2016 7:39 pm

Hi , The adjusters on the Drum Brakes of my Lomax 223 have rounded ; has anybody replaced the adjusters ? and just an idea of how difficult a job it is
previously I have replaced the brake shoes and the pistons so I know a little .

Regards

The standard practice is just to weld a nut on top of rounded adjuster

Hi,
In the old days and now on eBay you will find "Snail Cam Adjusters" that replace the original cams, these are for British cars but could be easily adapted for a EU unit. I saw a set the other day while browsing. You'll get a set for two wheels so will have a set left over

Hi again,
Thought that I should check info and searched Ebay and found what your looking for under Landrover spares.
refurbish kit for Series three drum brakes...circa £12.00 some plus postage some not.
Remove drum and shoes , cut chisel off the old cam and fit the assembly, checking alignment and clearance for sooth operation of cam AND brake shoe.
Refit shoe and adjust...job done, its all mechanical. :P

I never had any success welding on nuts, usually found that any pressure on the spanner and the entire nut and spindle were on the floor. I have tried on many different vehicles
