oil filter

Post by pm-vern » Sat Feb 04, 2017 7:15 pm

I got the Lomax MOT'd yesterday, did about 80 miles, the car ran really well.
The weather held out today, so I taxed it in anticipation of another nice ride. Reversed out of the garage only to see a thick line of oil following me.
On close inspection it seemed to be coming from the oil filter. It wasn't that loose, I managed to nip it up a bit by hand (now tight, hand tight)
according to the manual, it should only be hand tight. All appears well now.
Anybody had similar problems? All thoughts much appreciated.
Cheers,
Paul.

Hi.
I guess it depends what you consider hand tight. I've never experienced a leak after fitting a new filter but I always use 2 hands.
Just a thought, do you smear the seal with oil before fitting? It makes the world of difference to how much the filter can be tightened.

Thanks Hutchii,
filter seal lubed, struggled to get two hands in, going to start it again this morning and have a look.

Hi . after tightening I always grip the oil filter with sandpaper in my hands and can always get an extra bit of movement .
