Well QFAD, it is my impression that the 'notch' is there to take account of the single left side swinging arm as the whole assembly appears to bolt to the inside of the chassis rails.
But I could be wrong & will happily stand corrected by Claus or whoever cares to comment.

Hi Steve
In answer to how does the bracket connect to the chassis.
Assuming it is a standard 2cv type with tha 2 rear wings ?, cutback to allow the now inward facing axle and wheel to clear
For a trike
The 2 bolts each side are used thro the cut off wings ?the step down in the bracket is to accommodate the movement of the axle.
I have had this style of Bracket for a lot of years now , with no problems
Easy to take on and off with the electric plug permanently fitted to it to socket extension ,and a permanent trailer socket under the body attached is my solution for the ferry with good rear view and with in the overall vehicle length for small cars
Jans handbags and shoes in it my gear in the back with the toolsπŸ‘πŸ˜‚

Hello,
no problem:

Image

I run this towbar for about 14.000 km with load, 2 times to Northern Wales without any problem. The only additional feature was a
(hope Google tranlater will do it) "Downstop limiter" to prevent the swing arm from hitting against the towbar. It is nothing more than a massive plate of steel with a little bit rubber on it mounted on the frame.
I use a weight on the ball head of about 20 kgs and your shock adsorber must be ok !!!!

If not in use you can remove it only by 4 screws and removing the plug.

A braked trailer is very helpful as I noticed several times on the small winding roads of Wales with oncoming traffic

Hi Claus,

Many thanks for the detailed explanation and the pictures. The travel limiter 'bump-stop' (to restrain the down wood travel of the swinging arm) is a simple solution.

Perfectly clear now and I like your luggage carrier - allows good rear observation, much better than the usual rear boot carrier fitted to QFAD and most other Lomax cars.

Regards,

Steve

What an excellent thread this has turned out to be πŸ‘
I'm so glad that I asked πŸ˜€

Just one more observation that I have to make ;

Now that I've seen the larger photo of the frame 'in situ', posted by Claus, the frame for the towbar appears to be fixed to the chassis rails at an inlined angle from the lower edge of the rails & not parallel to the rails or the ground ?
It appears to follow the line of the rear bodywork πŸ€”
As there are no 'fitting instructions' with the technical line drawing :-

( kindly sent to me by Claus & which I will try to pass on to anyone who needs them --- with Claus's permission of course --- once I've figured out how to get them from this ancient iPad & into the forum or a pm/ email )

I can only assume that the rear bodyline is the 'guide' for fitting πŸ€”

But aside from that minor observation I'm chuffed to bits πŸ˜„

Thanks to everyone who has contributed I'm sure this thread will prove to be invaluable for years to come πŸ‘Œ

For optical reasons, I have adapted the course of the towbar to the line of the body.
