Luggage Racks

Post by Geoff Ryall-Harvey » Tue Dec 16, 2014 9:56 pm

Saw this recently and thought it was a very cost effective way of adding a luggage rack. It's made from IKEA kitchen door handles. They're cheap, stainless and come in various lengths.

That's a good, original idea. Would need a very large plate or oversized 'penny' washers at the least to spread the load and stop cracking the fibreglass rear deck of the Lomax range :D

Not sure about the trikes exposed open chain with no guard. Mind you, if that's the finished machine the rider of this beast is an 'ard man; I mean look at that seat padding.....................not !!!

Here's my take on a rack.
Not fitted yet (shown resting in place but will get mounted here soon) and is the front section of a Lambretta/Vespa front rack that I drilled and tapped to suit small rubber exhaust bobbins. Think it looks OK for the obligatory picnic basket for two (OK, OK in my case just the one; me).

Hi Jimmy,
Great colour Lomax, I picked up a V reg sad looking 223 from out of some ones garden 2 weeks ago. It has been sat for 15 years, with in an hours she was driving up and down the road with no probs. Now she is in boxes with everything stripped and painted in epoxy primmer and just waiting for a new chassis. I was just enquiring about your luggage rack and was it home grown or bought?? the only thing holding mine together is the plastic coating..if you have any info please let me know, or call 07887 840588.cheeers. :(

EXCELLENT! You got a 'saver'. Well done. I like to hear of the lost, found & restored stories so glad it's well on the way to a return to active life.
I got lucky with the rack.
It is the folding section of a rack a bit like this :- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stainless-ste ... 3cd10987ce
Because I am into vintage scooters (my Jimmy Cooper name on here is from the film Quadropenia and is the main character riding a Lambretta; yes I have a replica), I see scooter shops fairly often. Mine was just the bit I needed as the rest was missing. Lucky for me. :D
