A simple question (I hope)
In connecting the master cylinder I understand that the front connection on the cylinder goes back to the rear brakes. The middle connection goes to the front brake caliper. On all the LHD cars I have seen this line goes to the other side caliper from the master cylinder. Is this deliberate or can it go to either caliper?
Many thanks in advance
Keith

Re: Master cylinder connections
Keith,
As you say, front Master Cylinder connection to rear brakes. Rear Master Cylinder connection (there are only 2) to front brakes. On RHD car, this goes to RH Caliper, which makes sense, as it's a shorter run. I don't suppose it really matters, but you might upset the purists if you connect them back-to-front.

Re: Master cylinder connections
Thanks Callum
I am not sure who the purists are LHD or RHD car owners
but I like the idea of the shorter run as being the most preferable.

Re: Master cylinder connections
It's not the purists you need to worry about, it's the difference in the action and balance. The primary circuit is the rear connection on the master cylinder and it goes to the front brakes.
Re: Master cylinder connections
Don't know if this helps at all, but on my Ami-super LHD the top pipe goes back to the support clamp on the bulkhead and then swings forward again to loop.., before going to the front brake caliper on that same side of the car.
This route is deliberate because the pipe's connection to the master cylinder is supported by the bulkhead clamp (to minimise stress or movement from vibration) and then the pipe's loops give the necessary flex between the fixed bulkhead support and the rubber mounted engine. Having the loop, the pipe is only long enough to go to the nearest caliper.
The front connection simply u-turns back to a bulkhead's support clamp (next to the clutch cable socket) before running off the rear of the car .
Usually this rats nest of control cables, brake pipes, and wiring is out of sight under the spare wheel & heater hoses. But as I understand it (having studied photos of other cars) - this is the standard set up for the Ami 8 and Ami-super.
