Contacting the DVLA

Post by Kastar17 » Fri Jul 07, 2017 12:04 pm

Hi there

Having got my project uptogether I need to see about advising the DVLA that it is an entity and logging it as SORN.

Miy project is based round a Honda CX500 motorbike components with chassis, suspension and wheel configeration as a Three Wheeler Morgan. The reason I am putting pen to paper (or finger to keyboard) is that I note all the Lomax and other Citroen based three wheelers on your site have normal i.e. not Q registration numbers. How did the DVLA view the vehicles losing a wheel and keeping their registration number. Obviously I am going the other way 2 up to 3 but still with single rear wheel drive and eningine number and VIN number consistant with V5c as the rear half of bike frame and suspension is incorporated.

Any help in this area appreciated.

Regards

Hi,
The routes to avoiding a Q plate are either going down the 'Radically Altered Vehicle' route (I suspect that your alterations will be too radical for this) or to go down the IVA/MSVA route of gettig the vehicle inspected and getting an age related plate - related to the bike.

There's loads of info on the MSVA on this very forum, which should point you in the right direction.

Reading the description of what is being built, it will need an IVA/MVSA test anyway, and if it is a new chassis it will end up with a current plate, as I thought that Q plates had been scrapped.

Lomax and other 2CV based 3 wheellers kept their old car reg as they used the standard chassis slightly altered. However since most of them were built the DVSA have altered and tightened up the rules, so whether that would be allowed now is debatable.
