Lomax Gearbox/Drums brake

Post by Lomax76 » Sat Nov 04, 2017 9:02 pm

Hi,
In the process to refurbish/change the gearbox I have 2 questions:
What gearbox configuration is best: 20/27 or 19/25 teeth - 8/31 or 8/33? Dyane 6, AMI 8 or 2cv 6.
Is it worth changing drums from 200mm to 220mm?
Thanks for your help

Ken is your best bet on this one.

I think the best gearbox for our specials is a hybrid long box, which consists of a 2cv gearset with a dyane diff. I had this in my lomax, which was a better cruiser than my Pembleton.

I've only ever had disk brakes, so can't help on the drums.

Thanks for the fast answer, is it not too long on second and third? What I am looking for is a third gear a bit short so climbing up hill is not an issue and a longer forth gear while cruising on main road so I can be within reasonable speed at a lower rev, the engine is yet torqui enough so I think.
Cheers
Paul

Found an answer from Ken in the old forum concerning the drums I will go for 220mm I am happy with this keeping DOT4 and at the end of the day better hand brake than with the disks.
