The upper part of my dipstick tube has parted company with the crankcase and, at the moment , I can see no way of repairing it ! I really do not want to strip and split the engine to resolve so any assistance would be much appreciated

Hi Ron, I have managed to remove the dip stick tube in order to straighten it. I did this by gently twisting it CW/CCW with an adjustable spanner around the oil return tube. However, if yours has broken below the return branch
Also, unlike Kevin, when I tried to block the oil drip return tube and take the drain to an oil catch tank, this caused problems namely a smell of oil fumes each time the car stopped. The oil return has now been reconnected and the smell has gone!
No Kevin... the smell didn't coincide with eating curry and drinking beer the night before!!
Sorry Ron, just look on the positive side, while you have the engine out you could think about fitting a big bore kit and/or lightening the flywheel.

Many thanks for advice, however, got up early this morning , searched and found how to remove old broken tube and hope the new one will be here later today .so......fingers crossed ! Engine has a big bore kit but I was fitting a larger oil cooler and tried to move the dip stick tube around a bit and....ooops. Now need to remove the new oil cooler before I can effect repair ! Ah well , keeps me out of mischief .

. All good then. Not teaching you to suck eggs but to drag the temperature down you need to go the sandwich plate route
