Dipsticks
Help … it’s been troubling me for years … the shorter one is the one used when on the road … the other(s) I use when topping up the oil. I’ve always presumed that the longer ones were “correct” because they bottom out when inserted … a useful theory but is it the true?
So really my query relates to measurements … without the dipstick bottoming out the calibration depends on
1. the placement of the collar (which can easily move)
2. And or the length of the tube
Both really aren’t well engineered solutions, so bottoming out would be a great idea measuring oil depth repeatedly (from the bottom up) a good French/Citroen idea.
The two longer sticks (both “bottom”) but the high low marks aren’t even close to each other… which one is correct for a 602 Dyane (m28?) the top one’s hi/lo is closer to the shortest….
any ideas/comments.
