Which oil should I buy?
For my Lomax 602cc 2CV engine is a synthetic oil or a mineral oil best for the engine? Any product name recommendations welcome. There seems to be a wide choice of 10w40 products.
Actually am now confused by ECAS showing 10w40 for 2CV's and 2CV City showing 15w40 or 5w50, any advice welcome.

I use COMMA products 15/40 mineral oil, from a motor factor! Have used it in 2cv engines for 5-6 years no problem!Cheaper than the big names ,with a high spec. Ask for XFLOW MINERAL OIL.Recomend that you use a Purflow filter from Ecas.

I would not go to Halfords! You need a local Motor Factor, that caters to the trade! Most of them sell Comma products at a vast saving to you!

Re: Which oil should I buy?
for what its worth I would stick to 20/50 not comma though,,, when my 2cv was thrashed daily the oil light with 15/40 sym would never flicker at tick over when I put the same engine in trike and thrashed it (with out cooling shrouds) the light would flicker but with quality 20/50 then put in never a flicker

Re: Which oil should I buy?
re reading my imput it was a semi synthetic I used, what was I was trying to say was when the engine was really hot 20/50 seamed to maintain the pressure at tick over compared to 15/40... towing a trailor with out shrouds and a fan on surtainly proves how good comma oil is to me,,,,, Im converted,, is comma tied up with texaco now??

Re: Which oil should I buy?
I AM GLAD I HAVE CONVERTED YOU AS YOU MIGHT WELL SAVE SOME MONEY!MOST MOTOR FACTORS STOCK COMMA PRODUCTS WHICH INCLUDES HAND CLEANERS,CAR SHAMPOO OILS ETC.PLUS MOTOR PARTS FOR MANY VEHICLES.I HAVE BROUGHT 2CV BATTERIES FROM THEM BUT LITTLE ELSE AS FAR AS 2CV `S ARE CONCERNED .THEY DID AT ONE TIME RUN A CLASSIC CAR SECTION BUT I THINK THAT HAS CEASED.

Re: Which oil should I buy?
Ian, Re Comma oils. Anthony Shelton, a Lomax owner/builder of 20 years+, recommended their oils about 3 years ago during a conversation about my 223 having low oil pressure at tickover, (though not low enough for the light to come on) He recommended 20/50 Comma mineral oil, with a can of STP oil treatment thrown in for good measure. I took his advice and immediately saw an improvement in hot oil pressure. Another convert!!
Until a couple of years ago, when he had an accident whilst abroad, he regularly toured mainland Europe on an annual basis, including crossing the Alps and the Pyrenees, usually clocking up sufficient mileage for at least one oil change during the trip. Carried the necessary cans with him in case he couldn't find them abroad. I can't remember how many miles his car had done, but fairly certainly it was well into three figures, and given the way he drove, it hadn't had a quiet life!

Re: Which oil should I buy?
Thank you all for the experiences and advice, I was in a bit of a hurry and went directly for the Halfords brand of 15/40 , I didn't feel it was pricey, and with a new filter for £5.00 the oil change is now complete. I do extremely low mileage, and really appreciate your help, I will certainly look out for this COMMA product next time. Thank you for such great feedback and so quickly too.
