Importoon S/S front mudguard brackets

Post by waps » Tue Sep 10, 2013 4:49 pm

Just purchased a pair of these, an wonder if any of you have fitted them, and were there any problems/complications ?

Also need a source for fibreglass mudguards to fit 15" wheels

I was hoping to do this same modification on my 223, let us know how you get on. I was thinking of modifying the original front wings to turn into cycle wing type affair.

I have brought a pair of these and have not been able to work out what the square of metal is for! So if anybody has fitted them please let us know! Thanks Graham.

Graham,
Sorry, I can't help with the use for the "square" plate, as I haven't used these mudguard mountings myself.
One issue that concerns me with the principle of these brackets is that the additional thickness of the welded on plates, (which from ebay picture appears about 5mm thick) significantly reduces the engagement of the steering arm retaining bolts with the swivel. While it's true that longer M7 bolts are fairly readily available, Ecas spares catalogue lists bolts for the steering arms as grade 10.9.
To date I've only found (via ebay) grade 8.8 available in longer lengths! From memory these would be 20% or more, lower in both yield and tensile strength!
In my opinion, not ideal where steering is concerned!
I think in your shoes, I'd contact the bracket manufacturer for guidance.
Good luck anyway!

hutchii,
M7 set screws 60mm long, 10.9 grade, are available from the same source.

Cheaper than the 'ready made' variety as well, just need to dig out the hacksaw... ;)

Trikehound. The square piece with the 4 holes is for disc wheels, not required if yours are spoked.
Similarly the 2 thick washers are also for disc wheels.

With 2cv wheels been to check mine and it does look like you have to use the 4 hole plate to move the wing carrier inwards as been suggested.

You can take 5mm or more off the bosses on the arms using a milling machine. German BBS split rims use grade 12.9 M7 bolts with 12 point heads in longer lengths. I bought 20 nickel plated ones a while ago but have passed most of them on to other specials owners - I might have four left....

Hi,thanks for the answer, about the square plate! I am going to use disc wheels so I will need to step them in! The longer bolts sold by Ecas are for holding the steering column bottom clamp and appear to be the same spec.as the steering arm bolts!Definately the same fine thread,so will do nicely! Graham.
