Hi,

halfway through my Burton build. Body coming this Thursday-WOW (hadn't expected it for a few months) Nice Christmas present!

Question is I've a rebuilt engine (new engine No and now 652cc) and obviously I'll need to change the body type on the V5C-should i do them together or do the engine change, wait a bit, then do the body change in order to keep the changes to a minimum. How do you do the body change? Is it just a matter of putting a different description in box 7.20 (wheelplan/Body type) on the V5C???

BTW anyone offer up a suggestion as to ignition timing on a 652cc 2cv engine??? I've set it to static 10 degrees BTDC and then used the visa curve which gives about 31-32 max advance. Runs OK in the garage but any suggestions before it all goes back together greatly appreciated.

I usually advance the engine until it pinks under load and then retard it slightly.

I have read that in racing they reckon the best maximum total advance is 33.6deg before TDC. This equates to approx 10 flywheel teeth, but every engine is obviously different depending on how it is set up.

(1 tooth on the flywheel = 3 ΒΌ deg).
2.5 teeth...............8.4deg
3.0 teeth 11.1deg
3.5 teeth 11.8deg

Static is usually somewhere between 8 and 12 deg. 31.5 deg of total advance is usually about right for 9.0:1 pistons. Engines with low compression can take slightly more advance, maybe as much as 35deg.

This all really goes back to my original comment in that it is probably best to just advance the engine until it pinks under load and then retard slightly

If dont still have old eng number plate, do new eng number first, prob best not mention capacity change, as it get the dvla gnomes all agitated and curious, later can do change of body style, what ever you do dont mention any changes to chassis (not even cut end off to fit body) suspension etc, opens big can of worms

Do you intend to sell the car on in your lifetime? If the answer is no then I would not bother with all that sort of thing.
