Engine number. AM2 D 188096632

AM2 D188096632. Anyone tell me something about this number so i can check out replacement gearboxes or components or learn a bit more about my car ? I think its from a 1994 car , could it be the Ami version ? 602 cc ?

'does not compute'...
Now, if it was
0488096632, that could make it a 1978 engine.
Not much chance of it being 1994, since A series production had ended years earlier.

Youre right Ken , the engine number reads : SAA Citroen AM 2 0488096632
The gearbox reads AM -331.97e ^^ 27
Got a mechanic friend going to open the gearbox top tomorrow to look inside and see whats visible .
I Can still get into reverse if i hold the changer firmly and i dont allow it to jump out but there is still an occasional noise so dont intend to do this often . Only now do i realise how often i use reverse. My old AJS double adult sidecar combo didnt have reverse .
