Indicator audible alert warning.............................
Having read in the latest Nov/Dec edition of "Flat Out" about the problem of leaving indicators on (with the potential to have someone pull out on you from a side turning 'cos you were flashing left etc) reminded me of a clever solution to that problem on motorbikes.
The std diode/buzzer set-up does alert you OK but has the annoying trait of making a right racket when stationary at say traffic lights as you are indicating to turn left. Pedestrians give you that "Oh it's that annoying bike" look or with us now it'd be "it's coming from that funny little car" !

Or you could go with a delay version

Well, I bought a device a while back (on special offer back then as 'show' price etc..........and it was Jan 2008) from a bike show. It IS an audible warning device for indicators but has some really clever traits. I might add I have no connection with the company; just a satisfied user.
It is connected to the switch gear and indicators as you'd expect and to the brake light switch too but can be 'programmed' from the Audicator box itself to produce the following.
Firstly, the sound created can be altered to give differing alert sounds. These are differing tones to suit your hearing/preference.
Secondly, it can be made to start quietly and then 'ramp up' the sound volume at given flash counts (say two then louder at the next two and the next two) or go straight on as fully loud.
Thirdly, it can have a time delay of the amount of flashes before it kicks in. It makes an initial bleep to show it's functioning then goes to the programmes you have set it to. I used to have mine set for eight flashes, then it started with its sound.
Lastly and one of the best features is the re-set function.
To use the sitting at traffic lights turning left scenario, there you are with the indicator on and the handbrake applied. Foot is off the brake. The unit is set to operate at say 8 flashes and the ramp up sound function. It starts to go off. A dab on the brake will re-set the unit's internal flash counter and it waits the eight flashes until it starts again etc. If you keep your foot on the brake the unit continually resets and in effect doesn't activate.
Result is (I assume as it was with my motorbike) more admiring glances from pedestrians and less funny little bleeping car comments!!!!
The unit has increased in cost since I bought mine for my Ducati 916, but it was probably a lifesaver for me so my life is worth more than the purchase value for sure!!!!!!!

Re: Indicator audible alert warning.........................
Hi Jimmy,
A very useful device; Your comments regarding the indicator repeater warning lamp are spot on - in bright sunshine you simply do not notice the flashing lamp (Lin has had to remind me on more than one occaision to switch off the indicators). Infact the issue applies to all the instrument warning lamps - so much so that I have been pondering how to resolve before we undertake any European touring.
My first step was to wear a base ball cap underneath my Flying helmet (motorway crusing speeds) or just the baseball cap on local roads) - the peak together with sunglasses helps, but this does not fully resolve the issue.

I found that a towbar indicator warning buzzer is a good loud warning and cheap and easy to wire in!

Re: Indicator audible alert warning.............................
Although the "intelligent" unit described above sounded good (no pun intended) I've just ordered a buzzer from ebay for the special I'm building. £1.98 inc postage or buy 2 get one free! At that price it's obviously a bit cheap and cheerful, but then so was the one I fitted to my 223 nearly 5 years ago.

Hi.
Rob A. here.
Many years ago I saw a 244 at a Kit-car show; I think it was at Stoneliegh. This was when Lomax were still actively making Lomi.

Well, I've ordered an Audicator so we'll see how good it is on the Lomax as opposed to the bike!

Re: Indicator audible alert warning.............................
The Audicator arrived today 18-11-14.
Comes complete with a set-up lead, heatshrink tubing, ring terminals, cable ties, support brackets, decals, and cleaning wipe with double sided sticky pad. A comprehensive guide to adjusting the patterns of sequence is also included.
So pretty complete!
See the pics for overall size of the unit etc. It comes pre programmed so I will fit it this w/e if I get the chance and report back!!!

Re: Indicator audible alert warning.............................
Fitted the Audicator today. Any issues? Well the wiring composes of four shrouded wires that are only externally 0.78mm each (I checked!!!). Bit fine in my opinion as it is easy to bare a wire and break off the strands!!!
But with it all wired into the relevant loom sections (brake live when pedal depressed), RHS indicator, LHS indicator and earth the unit works really well. You can programme differing sounds, time intervals etc by unplugging an indicator lead and connecting a programming lead to it.
That's a posh way of saying a programming lead that is actually a single wire with crocodile clip attached (supplied).
I have actually wired a hidden rocker switch so I can easily do the programming (born to modify me) so that by flicking the switch I can do the various adjustment 'tasks' by activating the brake to a certain number of pushes that correspond to the codes provided.
Sounds complicated but really isn't!!!!
Clever bit of kit.
If anyone wants one by ordering on-line you can get a 10% discount by using the discount code VC307
Here's a picture of the unit in place. I drilled the plate and fitted it with the screw supplied.
