Lomax 223

Hello all
Just joined this group :D
I am hoping to acquire a 1978 Lomax 223
It is registered as a Citroen Lomax ( I cannot see anything about it being a tricycle on the log book)
Is this correct
Given that it is 1978, would this make it T/T exempt and if so, could someone in the know advise me, how I go about this and what I need to say, or not say as the case may be
Thank you
Gary

I would steer well clear, registration should have been changed to tricycle when it was converted.

The danger is that when DVLA find out that it is "radically altered" you will be required to pass a MVSA test.

Others might have a different view.

That sounds about right,
Thought it was too good to be true šŸ™
It’s got a nice little plate with Lomax / vin and chassis number in the engine bay and appears to have been used, as opposed to being a new conversion.
Would be interesting to hear ā€œother viewsā€ if anyone has them ….
I’ll have a look and see what the MSVA test involves 😬
Thank you for replying

Tax class should say tricycle on V5.
If not, best to social distance from what could be a can of worms.
Interesting though, was it mot'd annually as a four wheeler(class 4) if not registered as a three wheeler, (class 3) and if so was that even legal?...Was it taxed as tricycle?

Hello Gary.
If you enter the reg number on the DVLA M O T status web site you should be able to see whether it's been tested, and as what!

Regarding t&t, its age would classify it as historic for tax purposes. Test exempt is more tricky as the conversation date is what counts!

As already stated by others, if it's not identified as a trike on the V5, all the above is probably irrelevant!

The last ā€˜Tax Due’ is listed as 1992
No recorded last MOT
It’s registered as

602 cc
Citroen Lomax
Sports body type
PLG
2 seats
2 axle rigid body

I have been reading some of the old posts on T/T exemption on here and they have got me thinking that perhaps I could apply for Tax exemption on the grounds of it being a ā€˜Historic Vehicle’ which would change the taxation class to ā€˜Historic’ and mot it as such.
Given that the last recorded tax was 1992 and the vehicle has been registered as a Lomax at some point, this leads me to believe that there is a fair chance the modifications were carried out prior to 1992…..

Paper work would match if you converted it to a 224.......

I’m not familiar with either the 2cv chassis, or the Lomax body yet. Should the mounting points for the other wheel / suspension ect still be on the chassis, or would I need to re build it on to an unmodified one….

Gary,
There are lots of Lomax experts on this forum, my understanding is that replacement 2CV suspension arms will bolt straight to your chassis.
The new owner of the Lomax moulds should be able to provide mudguards.
Good luck with an interesting project

Thanks for the advice all šŸ‘ŒšŸ½
I’ll have to think it over, it’s an ā€˜option’ but there are lots of 4 wheel kit cars about and I’m not sure the Lomax is the one I’d choose …..
