Hello All,

Well what a disappointment :( I bought some VHT silver grey which looked a good satin silver on the cap. Took the rocker tops down to bare metal, degreased them with thinners and let them dry. Shook the can for the required amount of time and sprayed the rocker box tops. To say I was disappointed is an understatement, the rocker tops look like they're been sprayed with standard light grey primer, no hint of silver, nothing like the can top at all. Oh well back to the drawing board.

VHT paint does need to be baked off - can be done in the oven. Don't know if it makes it any shinier though.

Dave, I used smooth hammerite on exposed covers with no problems.

Hello All,

Thanks Geoff, Tom.

I've used some silver wheels over the top of the VHT the blokes in the triker forum I'm a member of say they've used it on their barrels and heads without any problems. The test will be when I get the rocker covers fitted and the engine up to running temperature. There's one good thing if it doesn't work I can re do the originals and swap them back again. Was supposed to be going to get the stainless exhaust pipes done today but the weather is rubbish in this area. Oh well no big rush on "tomorrow is another day" as they say in gone with the wind, trouble is the wind doesn't seem to want to go :)

Regards
Dave

Graylag,
I used Hammerite Blue gloss on my build about six years ago, no colour loss or burning...the gloss is not as sharp, but that may be due to a need for a wash and brush-up

Hi mate, there used to be a very high temp paint called Sperex and is probably still available from any outlet selling accessories for custom bikes and cars. I used it several times on engines and exhaust pipes,it came in an aerosol tin and in a range of colours, gloss or matt. Look on the internet for car and bike customizing
outlets. regards Badger

Thanks all for the information and suggestions. I ended up using VHT paint then spraying over it with silver wheels and baking it all onto the rocker box top in the oven.

Dave
