I am trying to identify the donor vehicle, engine type and carb type on my 1979 rgistered Lomax.
The chassis no. is given as SABTVR03377332130
The engine no. is given as 0508052553, but I can't find it on the engine itself. There are a variety of engine markings. On the crankcase, MO1, , CJ35, AM331, 97 81, UO59, and on the cylinder heads D1 AM1121. Some of these numbers are indistinct, so I may have read them wrongly.
The carb appears to be a single choke Solex, only other markings, 70730 91 00, 29K8 25 02.
Would welcome any info. Thanks
Patrick

Re: Vehicle, engine, and carb types
The surest way might be to send yr £5 to DVLA and ask for a complete history on their records..you will probably get a set of papers from the main dealer right through 2cv or etc and the build date when it was changed to a special even showing changes such as colour/owner/engine etc...
SABTVR0 is the usual vin for a special...

Re: Vehicle, engine, and carb types
Thanks for that. I have looked through the papers, and found that a previous owner did just that, from which I now see that my car was based on a 2CV 4 door saloon; no info as to engine or carb type, though. Haynes Manual suggests it should be an M28/1, though no markings to confirm that.

Re: Vehicle, engine, and carb types
You learn something new every day! I am obliged to David for the information that SABTVR0 VIN numbers are allocated to kit cars. My Lomax 223 (The Filby Flyer, Which Kit? magazine project car 1994) was built from a 1980 Dyane donor on a replacement chassis. I have a SATBVR0 VIN number stamped on the Lomax scuttle plate which is also on the V5 (where the make is given as Lomax223 - one word). The V5 also gives 1980 as the date of manufacture. Until today I had assumed that the VIN number had been copied from the donor. Now I know that his a new official VOSA VIN number does this mean that my 1980 registration number is an age-related plate or is it the original donor reg? And, if we are ever lucky enough to have the tax exempt historic vehicle scheme extended to 1980 cars would the car qualify.
