Hi Duncan
As said on the Pembleton forum. Consider the remaining one sold!
Vincent.

Re: Wire Wheels
I found this thread while investigating what wire wheels I have on my Lomax 223.
I do not know the history of the car and would like to know what the wheels were originally used on.
They do not seem to fit the descriptions in this thread.
I have 3: 2 on the front and a spare, but the reading the stamped information in the rims is not easy so below is the info off all three wheels.
Front left:
Made under licence Dunlop WIL 97 04 4J x 15 XW 450 R 22 80 (total of 48 spokes in a single row at the rim)
Front right:
Front Dunlop 89 05 41/2J x 15 XW 45 (total of 60 spokes double row at rim)
Spare:
INDIA MADE UNDER LICENCE FROM DUNLOP WL 89 05 41/2J x 15 XW 45 2M ( total of 60 spokes double row at rim)
All 3 wheels have Firestone F560 145 R 15 78S tyres fitted
I have only ever driven the car in this configuration and it seems to handle 'ok'.
What does it all mean?
Also I have not tried taking the front wheels off the car yet - any advice on how tight to do the spinners up (preferably torques rather than 3 clouts!)

Re: Wire Wheels
Hi Ron,
I have the spinners retaining my wire wheels and i do up hand tight, then a couple of good tap with a plastic mallet - so far no drama with loose wheels. Ref my wheels I bought from Moss Brothers - MGA wheels 15" x 5", 72 spoke if I recall.

Re: Wire Wheels
A bit more information off my car:-
The wheel has 75 splines, spline lengths are about 37mm and diameter about 62mm across the maximum in the bottom of the V in the splines.
The hub adapter uses the 3 bolt fixing to the wheel drive plate.

Re: Wire Wheels
I bought mine from:
http://www.mwsint.com/custom/FitmentGui ... C&CarYear=
They list specifically for a Lomax and supplied the adapters also. I fitted a set to my 223 18 months ago and haven't looked back.

Re: Wire Wheels
Hello Ron and QFAD.
I bought 7 wire wheels from a guy who makes a habit of rebuilding MGAs. I meet him at Chatham docks where he was collecting his 5th import from the USA. He’d traveled down from Yorkshire.
6 of the wheels were salvageable but the 7th was beyond hope. It did yeald spare stainless steel spokes so I was able to replace damaged ones in the others.
MGA wheels are 4J and have 48 spokes.
The info you provided Ron, does I think, identify when they were made, but I’ve no idea how to interpret said info.
The dimensions also tally with MGA.
The 60 spoked wheels could well be from a TF.
Wheel tightening. I bought a double handled spanner made from 1” thick plywood because I couldn’t bear the thought of thumping my brand new spinners with even a rubber mallet. I heave on it as hard as I can, then give the end a couple of clouts with a large rubber mallet. I’ve no idea how tight they are but they’ve been troubled free for nearly 9 years now.
I only have them fitted to the front of my 223 because I’m not sure they can be fitted to the rear given the lateral movement necessary to clear the splined hub.
Hope the above helps
Ian
