Dutch made mudguard brackets ,that bolt on to steering arms!

Post by trikehound » Sun Jul 27, 2014 12:03 pm

Hi I have purchased a pair of these brackets from Holland and they look to be very good! Only thing is how do they fit? There is a metal plate with holes in it that looks like it should bolt on to the top of the steering arm? Any advise would be welcome! Also ,it says to stick the mudguards on with kit,any body know of a good brand to use! (I am takeing kit to mean a body kit adhesive) I am rewiring the 223 with a American hot rod loom, that I purchased from Langys Hot Rod Shop,so far it has been excellent & simple,as each wire is marked as to where it goes! This ground up rebuild has so far taken two and a half years ,but I am getting their! Any help appreciated! Graham.

Dave, the small flat part bolts on top of the steering arms, you will need longer bolts and the spacer provided. Some people drill them out larger but I have stuck with the M7's with no problem. The longer bolts should also be high tensile (10.5) ECAS sell the longer ones, I also drilled mine for wire locking. I chickened out of using just adhesive and used stainless penny washers just to be sure.

Your are certainly better using the longer M7 bolts. The M7 thread is already oversize for an M8 tap - the correct size tap drill for M8 x 1.25 is 6.8mm.

BBS split rims use a higher spec 12 point 12.9 high tensile bolt and these are available in stainless and coloured chrome. Unfortunately they are a few millimetres shorter than needed - I milled the same amount of the top of the rear most bolt on the steering arm (basically just the boss - which serves no useful purpose). See below for details.

There is, of course, absolutely no need whatsoever to use stainless or chrome bolts on a standard 2CV but on a Special they are very visible and the standard ones rust very quickly.

BTW - the "ears" welded on the side of the hub carrier are the mudguard mounts....

Hi Trike hound. Firstly have you wire or disc wheels, you only use the plate with 4 holes if you are running disc wheels, if wires you need to include the 2 spacers provided.
You must be careful of the clearance from the tyre, this is very close ( on mine it touched one of the tyres, so a small adjustment is required, try them without the mudguards fitted first.
