I do not really want to dismantle the engine again, can any one help and tell me how to remove the tube to clear it.

Dipstick Tube
Having just rebuilt the engine from a box of parts I have now found to my horror that the dipstick tube is blocked.
I do not really want to dismantle the engine again, can any one help and tell me how to remove the tube to clear it.

In theory it can be pulled out but they often snap. Perhaps Ken Hanna can give advise on a technique that will maximise your chances of removal without breakage...
Re: Dipstick Tube
It could well be an insect laying a brown mud egg protecting layer in your tube...If you turn it all upside down and use a piece of welding rod with a bent over end...you may well be able to corkscrew the bits out..and wear goggles if it falls in yr eye....I had same on a fuel line...

Re: Dipstick Tube
Thnaks for the advice. I will give it a go this weekend. Hope i dont have to go down the road of tappint it out.
Re: Dipstick Tube
it is possible, I have removed the dipstick [on pembletons to turn it round 180degrees ] very carefully from the crankcase with careful tension with mole grips...the weak part is the swollen part just by the sump which will crack if moved too hard or quickly...once moving you are winning.
a careful slow twisting -if it moves ok, then you can lever with a fine screwdriver just below the swelling bit...and twist carefully..very gently..There is only a small tight part the thickness of the alloy case to move-the rest of the tube is thinner as it goes down to the bottom of the sump... but once moving it will pull out ok.-or turn he whole lump upside down and remove the blockage as I mentioned..it is probably a grub laying a mud protected egg hoard...
hope it works...

Re: Dipstick Tube
Many thanks for help.
If any one is looking for a M9/125 bolt I obtained one 43mm long from the local engineering company that overhauls and rebuilds engines.
The one he gave me is the con rod bolt from a late Rover 75 that used the BMW Engine.
He also had lent me a tap to cut the thread on the understanding that if I break it I replace it.
