Accelerator pedal seems very short on travel
Me again, sorry!
In working on the carb another problem has emerged. The accelerator pedal has only got about 2 inches of travel before it hits the floor. The secondary butterfly on the carb never opens!
Can I shorten the cable somehow? Is that a good fix?

That should work - there should be a lot more than two inches of travel. I wonder if the pedal arm has got bent (or straightened out)? Slacken off the clamp at the carb end and pull the cable through until the pedal is as high as possible then clamp it down again.

Hi ,I have just finished sending a reply to your private message! Then I have gone to the forum and realised your problem is different to mine.So the only adjustment is on the cable pivot where you see a R pin sticking out of a white(usualy!) nylon tube with slots in it.Try pulling out the R clip and allow more lengh to either go forward or back then replace pin at the chosen slot Also I am thinking that you have just put a new cable on,have you tightened up the cable in the wrong position?try letting the nut off and moving the cable! Good Luck!

Hello Geoff, I don't have a clamp at the carb end - the cable is attached by a pin to the cam on the carb. Do you mean the tube that goes through the support arm attached to the rear carb nuts? Is that the same thing you are describing, trikehound?
Would it be possible for either of you to post a photo of your pedal so I can compare it to mine?

Re: Accelerator pedal seems very short on travel
My Avion is running an SU carb and the throttle pedal is not standard either.
It sounds very much like the cable is too long and needs adjustment. That thing with the R clip is rubbish. I tend to replace all throttle cables with a Teflon lined stainless mountain bike brake cable and adjuster. Works on everything, gives a smooth action, easy to adjust and they're cheap. Lots of hot rodders use them - if they're good for 700HP Cadillac engines they'll be good for a 2CV...

Re: Accelerator pedal seems very short on travel
I've adjusted the cable where it goes through the carb bracket and it feels like it has a similar tension to the one on my 2CV - if it were any tighter, the throttle would open. But it needs to move about three inches at the carb end. I'll try bending the pedal - it is a standard 2CV shape at the moment.
Re: Accelerator pedal seems very short on travel
If you set it with the pedal full down and the carb fully open, it takes any strain out of the cable /linkages.. open is full down,...tick over is then sortable...

Ah, but with the pedal fully down, the carb isn't fully open. The pedal is fouling on the bodywork.
Re: Accelerator pedal seems very short on travel
if you set it with the pedal fully down and the throttle wide open..then fit the cable tight.......then it should work..
if the throttle then does not close -yr pedal is bent...re-bend and try again..

The pedal is fouling on the bodywork. The pedal rack has been fitted slightly wrong.
