As I understand you live in France, I don't know the answer. In fact I'm not absolutely sure of the answer for UK cars. I do know that they are checked during an MoT test and must work. I'm more interested in why on earth you might NOT want to have them fitted anyway. They are a safety device to warn other road users of your presence, say that you've broken down or have had an accident. Just fit them.

Bonjour Dave, as Paul says definitely a safety feature so get wiring old mate!!

I used a hazard switch off a series 3 BMW, could not get it to work until I found out that the switch required 2 earth connections! Sneaky buggers these German car makers!
I also fitted a high level stop lamp because our little cars do not present a very prominent back end to drivers closing on you. We are back over mid Oct so will call on you.
Regards to you and Vron. Bon Nuit. Badger.

The MoT testers manual says: (http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_140.htm)

Hazard warning devices are not required on vehicles first used before 1 April 1986, but if one is fitted it must be tested.

The hazard warning lamp ‘tell tale’ may be a separate light or the same as the indicator ‘tell-tale. However, it must be a flashing light.

So you don't need them!

They might be a legal requirement on a Lomax 224 (post 1984), but are you sure that they are for a 223 ? When did you last see a motorbike fitted with hazard flashers ? Remember a three wheeler could just as easily be a motorbike and sidecar ! The MOT man always tests the hazards on my 1978 Lomax 223, but I am sure that it is not actually a testable item.

I have them fitted to my 1975 AK400 van & one MOT ,sods law, they stopped working! The MOT man said if you can not fix them put a piece of tape over the switch,to hide it & he would pass it,as it is not a legal requirement to have them fitted but must work if they are! As they are a safety feature,as has allready been said, i fixed them. However i have no fog light on this vehicle, which comes under the same rules. Graham.
