Re: Oil Cooler pipe union sizes?
There is 4mm of clearance but its OK coz the cooler is bracketed onto the engine so it all moves together. If I need to gain access to anything its just a matter of removing the clamp bolt (not shown in this pic) slackening the horizontal nuts on the fitting elbows and pivoting the cooler up and out of the way.

Four millimetres? As much as that? Ha ha. Yes, tight fit.
I have just been looking at the front end of mine and remembered I have a few spare parts in a separate part of the workshop. Had a look and found a spare std oil cooler. So a double-up system like in the blue car pic is a distinct possibility!!!

Re: Oil Cooler pipe union sizes?
Hi all,
Ref doubling up oil coolers or fitting larger type - remember you need the oil to achieve operating temperature - so it is all too easy to over cool (unless of course you are planning on undertaking exceptional heavy load driving. I think an oil temperature gauge is a worthwhile investment.
Pembleton Don did a lot of work investigating which oil cooler to fit (check out the Pembleton forum).
From my own testing and temperature readings (sump mounted temperature sender) I think the 13 row Mocal (120 mm x 120 mm matrix) cooler is sufficient.
Just my two pennies worth

Howard,
As I'm an inquiring (nosy) type, can you tell me, 1/ What does the toothed belt drive?
2/ Where did you obtain the exhaust pipes? They look as if they go down and therefore under the driveshafts? Further pics of them would be appreciated.

The timing belt is driving a an anticlockwise revolving rev counter, found it at an autojumble and just had to use it!
As for the exhaust pipes, I'm afraid that's a long and sad story. I had these bent up by a company in Birmingham and brazed them into some home made flanges. They did go down and under the disk brakes. Unfortunately I had a lot of brake over heating problems so I cut and shut them rerouting over the gearbox. It then turned out that the brake overheating was caused by a badly adjusted pedal push rod which was causing the brakes to bind. I am sure that some tape wrap or a shield would have been enough...

Re: Oil Cooler pipe union sizes?
Great picture. Thanks! Think I'll go that way as I have the spare one and that gives a 12 row total I think.
Have you got a picture of your support 'frame' from the rear for that top oil cooler? I mean, I have been looking at ideas.............but why re-invent the wheel etc. I was going to use two vertical supports off the std support bracket positions plus a steady back to the block but your looks different as I can't see the std mountings in use on the top one so ?
I assume the front of the crankshaft pulley boss is cut off to give the clearance etc?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Oil Cooler pipe union sizes?
Attached are a couple of pictures of my double oil cooler support framework. The angle iron at the bottom is what supports the arrangement. In terms of cooling I also have two motorbike fans that I purchased cheap on ebay that blow air from under the car onto the cylinders. I have a single on/off switch for the fans that I user if I am stationary for a while in hot weather, as the oldie Lomax does have a habit of getting quite hot under these conditions. I have also attached photograph of my fan arrangementsJimmy Cooper wrote: Have you got a picture of your support 'frame' from the rear for that top oil cooler?
