Re: Oil Cooler pipe union sizes?
Hope they work okay.... and I hope they were cheap. I find the fans very reassuring, especial when I have been abroad in hot weather and doing things like queuing for a Car Ferry on a hot day. You can sort of tell when the engine is getting too hot as everything seem to go too quiet and ready to seize..... but not now with my cooling fans as everything remains super cool !!!Jimmy Cooper wrote:Well Kevin, I've taken a leaf out of your book and bought a couple of Kawasaki 600cc rad cooling fans so am awaiting their arrival. Obviously when am travelling forward at a decent rate I turn the fans off....

Re: Oil Cooler pipe union sizes?
Well they were a lot cheaper than this one!!!
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kawasaki-Ninj ... 51c9496104
The blade shape on 'my' Kwacker ones have a slight enlargement to the outer 1/3rd or the blade like a one sided hammerhead. I remember changing the standard shape Ducati one on my '916' for this style as it was seen as a higher performance version as the '916' only had one fan...............and being a race bike on the road it wasn't made to get hot in traffic!!!!!
PS. Hammerhead style on mine turn out to be like tapered axe head really!

Re: Oil Cooler pipe union sizes?
The Yamaha fans on my Lomax are similar with the enlarged outer 1/3 of the blade (see below). I didn't realize this was for added performance, but good that it is..... KevinJimmy Cooper wrote:Well they were a lot cheaper than this one!!!

Re: Oil Cooler pipe union sizes?
Well got the two fans. Will this make it a KWACKERMAX ?
Did a location-by-cable tie check to see if it would all work. It does!!! I am going to drill and tap some location points for the fan frame as I just don't trust cable ties as long term structural members! The fan is actually running in these pictures but the camera freeze frames the blades well. I did a meter check on just this one running & it pulls a steady 4.3 amps. So, 8.6 amps for two across a switch. Relay required really.
I notice my Kawasaki blades number 8 and you have six. As long as they work eh?

Looks good.... we now have two Lomax hovercrafts. Your engine compartment looks very clean and well manufactured. I find that even though there are quite a few chassis and other obstructions the actual air blast over the cylinders is quite substantial.Jimmy Cooper wrote:Well got the two fans. Re: Oil Cooler info. Cylinder Cooling fans too!!!
Hi Jimmy,me thinks that you are worrying too much!Blackjacks do not bother to fit an oil cooler! Same as a lot of motorbikes! My Citroen mechanic mate ,has fitted a heat sensor in his drain plug,on his Avion, and it does not run hot at all!A cool engine does not run at it`s best,so find a happy medium! Happy Motoring! Roll on summer!

Re: Oil Cooler info. Cylinder Cooling fans too!!!
Well Trikehound, I have played today trying to fit a second oil cooler and whatever position I seem to get the higher unit, the cooler hits the bonnet/mesh grille, so I've reverted back to just the larger one only.
The fans will help cool the sump a bit in traffic and move air around the engine bay in general so not going to worry.
The fans got fitted today. I drilled and tapped the chassis at the front and used tap washers as isolating washer/buffers. The fans then sat OK with no additional support. The rear 'fixing' I actually did just use two cable ties each side to go around the lighting support bar. Seemed cheap, easy and wouldn't weaken the bar with hole drilling etc. Have got the wiring to the cabin and have wired in a relay. Need to work out where/how I'm going to position the warning light (which I have) and the switch & style (that I don't have)!

Re: Oil Cooler info. Cylinder Cooling fans too!!!
Just thought you should be warned...these fans were banned from F1 when used to suck the cars down to the road so make sure yours are blowing the other way..
Joking aside, as has been mentioned too much cooling is not good as it reduces HP and increases fuel consumption and engine wear... The BMW oil head twins have a cooler about the same size as a 2CV (some models have 2 half size rads.) but all have an oil stat fitted to avoid over cooling.
