Le Patron headlamp mounting

Post by QFAD » Wed Feb 18, 2015 6:52 pm

Hi all,

QFAD has the original Lomax headlamp mounting frame which is pretty flimsy and hinders access to the rocker boxes. Does anyone have any experience of the Le Patron mounting? From the pictures I've seen a tube is passed through the inlet manifold 'heating' pipe connection (connection to the header pipes). I would have thought this method would be prone to vibration issues?

Comments appreciated.

Steve

I suprised no one has any thoughts on what seems at first glance such an unsuitable mounting point - or is it that none of the CSC members have any experience of the Le Patron cars?

If the mounting point is a practicable option it does provide a neat solution to mounting the headlamps and allow access to the cylinder heads/tappets etc without having to remove the Lomax frame.

Steve,
Only just seen this post, and it stirred something in the grey matter. I may be wrong but I think the Burton has something similar to the Le Patron as you've described it. For sure the few I've seen don't have the chassis mounted bracket. I've never seen a Le Patron in the flesh, but Callum should be able to confirm this..
Another option assuming you have a standard bonnet, and it's still a "lift off"? Could you maybe, reinforce the bonnet in the right areas, and then do as I have on the special I'm building. True the bonnet is front hinged, but the headlamps are attached to the bonnet on short, radially located stubs, and the wiring, (which is multi-core cable) is quickly removable using multi-pin plug and sockets which I found in Maplins.
Hope this helps.

Hi Godfried,

Thanks for the pictures - I had assumed your cars mounted the headlamp bracket onto a modified inlet manifold - a very igenuous solution. Vibration obviously is not an problem.

Thanks for the clarification,

Steve
