S U Carb?

Post by llanigraham » Sat Jan 21, 2017 11:23 pm

Following the short discussion in the Sale/Wanted section, I have today been offered a 1" SU carb off a Morris Minor.
Seems to be in good nick and I realise it would need rejetting, but does anyone know whether it would be suitable?

Hi.
Are you sure it's only 1"? If it's of a Morris Minor, I'd expect it to be 1 1/4".
I have a 1 1/4" (HS2) fitted to a home made manifold on my 223, and I'm very happy with it. I can't remember which needle I fitted but I'm sure someone else on this forum will come forward with the answer.
I think a number of other members have fitted
1 1/2 carbs (HS4 or HIF4) with good results.
In my opinion, if it is only 1" it won't be big enough.
Hope this helps
Ian

I might have to check it a bit more carefully!

Which bit do you measure to ascertain the size?

Measure the diameter at either the manifold or air intake end.

Picked the carb up today and can confirm that it is indeed 1.25", and not as I thought originally.
Can anyone confirm that it will fit under the bonnet of a Lomax?
I presume I am going to have to move the coil pack?

Anyone willing to state what needles to start with?

I'm sorry but I can't help with clearance under the bonnet. Mine's fitted with a Continental bonnet and I'm not sure how the height compares with a standard one.
Mine is fitted with the filter over the starter motor. I had to add a spacer to the standard manifold to allow the jet full stroke for the choke.
Yes, if you're going to fit as per mine, you will have to move the coil.

Thanks.
Can you do a photograph of yours, please?
What jets have you used?
