How old is my engine ?

Post by Mick Boon » Sun Feb 19, 2017 2:19 pm

I know there is already a tread on this subject somewhere here but I can't find it

It's a red plate with A06/635, the engine serial number is...0903054001

Thanks :)

AO6/635 confirms it was a 2CV, at least!

My 1976 2CV started out with engine no. 0507060143. It's been re-engined with a Dyane unit, age unknown but later than 76, engine no.0908026849

JHS1, Apparently if it has a black plate it's from the 70's if it's red it's from the 80's

JHS1,
0507060413 would be a 1977 2CV engine ( 8.5:1 CR, single-choke carb, coil spring clutch, metal cowls ), that "Dyane" engine is another 2CV engine, this time from 1988 (twin-choke carb, diaphragm clutch, rubber engine cowls). ;)

Dyane/Ami engine numbers started with 048....

Using the same guidelines, MB's engine would have started out as a 1983 2CV, so its details would have been the same as your 1988 engine.

Very interesting but also a bit strange. I can't verify that my replacement engine was from a Dyane but I used to work with the guy who sold it to me and he assured me it was from his Dyane. It had metal cowls. I can't comment on the clutch because I swapped my own lightened flywheel and clutch to the replacement. Maybe his Dyane was also re-engined?
The new engine plate is red as MB suggested and shows engine type as A08/636.
My original engine was otherwise good but replaced because of enormous end float on the crank.

Oops Just read my original post. The car was a 78, not 76. Sorry for misleading info.
