Suspension seems hard
Hi on passenger side suspension seem to be lower than other side, and seems to go hard when on rough or ruts in road and makes the steering shake.I feel it might need new suspension cans would this be the problem. If so does anyone have spare ones to sell cheers from
Re: Suspension seems hard
presume you squirt caster oil inside the cylinders regularly to keep them sliding???

Re: Suspension seems hard
Hi,
To stop squeaking and shuddering etc of the springs inside the suspension cans they require to be lubricated, like all things that slide in contact.
In the case of the spring cans use a oil can filled with Castor oil and give them a squirt every thousand miles...since you've not done it to date would recommend a liberal dosage to each can...say ten squirts, then take the beastie out for a spin on a bumpy road to displace the oil around the inside of the can. This may need to be repeated to obtain a smooth operation/action.
regards Bill

Re: Suspension seems hard
Hi
Inside the can are large diameter springs, the end fitting having what is effectively a brake shoe type material around it’s outside surface with a clearance fit to the tube
The oil lubricates this but if the rubber seals at each end of the tube have also perished water may have entered and rusted the surface, this and lack of regular oiling may be the problem, but I’d also unscrew tie rods and check knife edges and swing arm bearings for smooth operation and action of dampers
