Brakes

Post by SHBat40 » Sat Nov 11, 2017 5:01 pm

My 223 was registered as a LOMAX in 1999, but first registered as a 2CV, is 1978. It was built using bits from 2 2CVs engine and gearbox with disk brakes from 1 and the rest from another. The rear, altered, swing arm was an exchange item. The problem I have is that while I wasn't looking, the rear brake cylinder has just decided to leak all over the garage floor. I am guessing that the bear brake cylinder was not set up for LHM and the rubbers have given way. I need to purchase new shoes and new slave cylinder rubbers or a new slave cylinder. Does anybody know if I can just change the cylinder as it appears that the pipe size may differ.

Well you need to find the cylinders that match your pipe fitting usually M8 for HLM if not you might buy the repair kit for LMH (ok if cylinder not too rusty) There are different size 16mm HML or 17,5mm DOT

Hi. Your biggest problem will be geting the rear cylinder off the brake pipe without wrecking the pipe union.

If it appears to be a LHM cylinder, you can replace the dust covers and o-rings with those from a repair kit with the cylinder in situ - save you upsetting the brake union.

If you do have to take the cylinder off, hold the brake union steady, and rotate the cylinder to unscrew.
