Re: Electronic ignition
depends...
If it's a total points replacement system like 123, then once fitted, it can be ignored thereafter. I've not touched mine since fitting it 12 years ago.
If it's a points-assisted system like Boyer Bransen, then it does improve starting and fuel efficiency, but will suffer from points cam wear and will need adjusted from time to time.
I have both, although I consider the 123 to be the superior solution.

Re: Electronic ignition
I have a 123 unit fitted now for three years,
Starts and runs better since, and it is maintenance free, ( the main reason I fitted it)
Last year I treated the car to Iridium spark plugs, now these make a real difference when the engine is started from cold.
I would love to fit the new 123 unit with adjustable timing and passcode immobilizer via a bluetooth connection, but I cannot justify the cost.....yet.

Re: Electronic ignition
I have 123 on my Diane but need a new coil. Any advice on a more reliable coil than the standard black coil, as I have fitted one of these new and after 6 months the engine will not start when hot.

Re: Electronic ignition
I am using "Accel super coil yellow" So fare so good but needs 8.8mm silicone racing wires sold normally together as a package.

Re: Electronic ignition
My Lomax 223 had a Boyer Bransden fitted and ran well. However, have just fitted a Lumenition Optronic system to improve reliability and remove the weak link i.e the contact breaker. Am also using a Boyer Bransden coil which seems to be working well too. It is mounted on the Boyer heat sink which aids cooling. The original coil mounting was on the gearbox top but I’ve relocated the Boyer one to the top bell housing mounting just behind the alternator, which will I believe will also help to keep it cool.

Re: Electronic ignition
Be interested to see a photo of how you've mounted the coil there, as there doesn't appear to be room under a Lomax bonnet.kawlomax223 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 11, 2018 7:38 pmMy Lomax 223 had a Boyer Bransden fitted and ran well.
