Stripping Exhaust Bolts

Post by Citron Presse » Sun Sep 09, 2018 10:28 am

Anyone have solution to exhaust bolts stripping. I assume it's because the Lomax exhaust is rigidly mounted. , Is putting in a flexible section in the exhaust pipe an option?

Hi,
Sorry you have not got an answer, being french I am not sure I got the question! if it is related to removing the exhaust bolt, I think you should proceed opposite of the erection sequence, first slightly unbolt the cylinders to release stress, then proceed with the exhaust. Prior to do this it is best to spray WD40 or the like.
I will not use flexible for the exhaust for the reason it does not look nice and will probably impinge the gas velocity, we don't need that do we?
Cheers

My problem is with the bolts stripping over time. I've already had to re-tap the threads on one side and now the other side has gone too.

How rigidly is your exhaust system fixed? My silencer is on two rubber mounts, like this

There doesn't seem to be a problem with bolts stripping after 3000 miles.

Not quite sure why you're using bolts on the exhaust manifold, since Citroen used studs?
The original M7 studs seem to work just fine on the 2CV race cars...

The studs are stripping the threads in the head. I suspect the head flange may not be parallel with the exhaust flange.

Thus we are back to the installation procedure release the stress from the head...
