Hi all,
Having had my VGS 700cc engine for a few years now (very pleased with the output), I'm now returning to my 'roots' as it were (Lin & I having ridden Guzzi bikes for 30 yrs and have always loved the big old lazy V Twin engine), I plan to fit a 950cc round block Guzzi engine into QFAD (Lomax 223). I reckon the upgrade will provide that extra bit of power and especially torque to make QFAD a much more capable european tourer two up with luggage - especially factoring in mountains etc...
One point of call will be Phil Gregory (Pembleton Motor Co) as I believe he can provide the engine/gearbox adapter kit - are there others?
I'd appreciate any info members have gleaned from undertaking this conversion.
Many thanks,
Steve

I've constructed a conversion-kit Guzzi => 2CV/ GSA transmission years ago, some are still running in UK
but most in germany.
Have a look to my homepage:
https://threewheeler.de.tl/Lomax-223-mi ... -Motor.htm
https://threewheeler.de.tl/Umbau-Guzzi_Lomax.htm
If you are interested I can make contact to a guy who can create you a conversion-kit.
Regards
Claus

Hi Richard & Claus,
Many thanks for your kind assistance - all the info I needed in just two posts - and a couple of emails. Just shows the value of this forum!
I have the engine and hopefully an adapter kit - so all ready to proceed. Aiming to be on the road for late summer...

Re: Big Block Guzzi - 950cc round barrel
Hi All,
QFAD is back on the road, passed his MOT on Friday.
The build took much longer than planned and cost much more too - I fitted a deep sump with external oil filter to make future servicing much easier. A new set of Dyna coils and points etc..- yep I kept the original points ignition system, but rebuilt the distributor.
As I kept the std carbs, the fuel system had to replicate a gravity fed system. I tried various regulators etc.., but in the end utilised an open circuit system with a return to the tank (many thanks to our cousins on the Pembleton forum). I did put a slight reduction in the return pipe to 'encourage' fuel to go to the floats, fuel returning to the tank as required. It seems to work well.
The headlamps had to be remounted to make room for the engine, but the relocation also allowed easy access to the rockers and carbs.
The Bonnet required major profiling to allow a good airflow around the barrels, but I retained the Lomax grill as it is so much part of the Lomax look.
Lin and I had a spectacular drive down to Kittwhistle and then on to Bridport to see Chris Day. The big old Guzzi engine makes for a very relaxed drive, easily blatting up those big long Dorset hills.
I wanted to post a picture of Lin & QFAD in Chris's yard .... but cannot remember how to do so!!

Hi Steve
Great to see you have finished the guzzi conversation,
As they say once you go guzzi you never go back
The locals around Bridport must have though they where being invaded ,
As Jan and I where around that area at the the same time
give us a call and we could meet up to compare
Conversations and catch up ,retired now so all time time in the world ?
Keep on revving
