Visa engine
My son and I have acquired a Visa engine with the intention of fitting it to his Lomax. I stripped it today and was surprised to find (having no knowledge of this engine) that it has no points ignition, although the crankcase has the casting for them as with the 2CV. The ignition system it uses is triggered by transducers in the clutch housing.
I would prefer to use the 2CV system if possible but this may be determined by the camshaft. Can anyone advise whether the Visa crankcase will accept a 2CV camshaft? Any other info about the swap would be very welcome.

Re: Visa engine
The adapter to fabricate to install a 2cv ignition actually it is not straight forward it is easier if you install an electronic ignition, may be you should have a look at this supplier as an example..

Further more there other areas to look at like flywheel but not limited to unless you keep the Visa gearbox.. The Visa engine looks like the 602cc but matter of fact it is a different beast.. 34cv, better oil distribution, cylinders in aluminum coated in Nikasil etc..
To be honest I am not a specialist but for sure this implementation needs to plan properly.

Re: Visa engine
The gap needed between bell housing and block for clearance is 5mm with visa starter (holes elongated in gearbox for starter clearance) cut the sensor mounting area out of visa box and clamp between box and engine. ..or buy the adapter for the visa camshaft and use 123 ignition. Sorted.

Re: Visa engine
Thanks both. Sounds do-able, will have to decide whether to go ahead.
Re: Visa engine
If you plan to go any further might be good to go through some reading cf attached link.
Do not forget that Nikasil cylinder's are hardly found and cannot be easily re-bored.. as they need to be re coated.

Re: Visa engine
Thanks, had already found the cats-citroen link. It seems this is a more time consuming project than either of us has time for now, so we will sell the engine once it has been cleaned up.

Re: Visa engine
Or perhaps consider fitting the Visa Barrels and heads to a 2CV crankcase.

Hi Howard,
Any info on the milling machine please? Perhaps cheaper and easier to have the machining done unless the mill is very reasonably priced?
