Three wheels to Four

Post by LomaxBP » Fri Oct 01, 2021 8:57 am

Hello all
I am considering purchasing a Lomax 223 that has not been registered as a tricycle and after making some enquiries on here, it seems the best course of action would be to revert it to 4 wheels.
I am new to Lomax’s and 2 CV’s in general, I would consider myself ok at ‘tinkering’
How difficult and time construction is the removal of the Lomax body and rear existing rear suspension. Can anyone offer any ‘tips’ and or things I need to be aware of.
Are there any modifications / upgrades that would be a good idea to carry out at this point and lastly has anyone that has converted to a 223 got the old suspension ect in good condition for sale …..
Regards Gary

Hello LomaxBP

I have recently taken the body off my 224 and it took around 15 hours, mainly because it had been secured with coach bolts (no spanner fittings on bolt heads) which had rusted out and each one had to be dealt with individually. A realistic time would be sub 5 hours.

Apart from the body bolts you will have to relieve the rear floor around the fuel filler and seat belt tie-rods if they have been fibreglass’d into the floor.

The rest is pretty straight forward and you leave all the mechanical parts in/on the chassis. Typical disconnections between body and chassis are:

- Electric cables. Don't forget the one for the fuel tank sender).
- Brake pipes at master cylinder.
- Steering at base of column.
- Clutch cable.
- Throttle cable.
- The side exhaust system.
- Remove the seats and all brackets associated with the seat belts
- Any other misc. items connecting the body to the chassis.

Two people can lift the body off but prepare somewhere to put it beforehand as if you just stand it on the floor it could damage the lower skirt panels.

Please PM me if you want any further info.
