Hello all
I have just acquired a 1978 Lomax 223
The previous owner has given me the old V5 (signed)
It is correctly registered as a Lomax 223 tricycle, but he has not yet changed the taxation class to ‘Historic’ and has still been paying for the road tax.
It is currently taxed and mot’d.
Can anyone advise the correct procedure for me to obtain Historic Status and tax / mot exemption please
Regards Gary
Tax / mot exemption

Re: Tax / mot exemption
Hi Gary,
Mine was exactly the same when I got it -- except it wasn't even taxed. I went to the post office, and had them change the taxation class when I "paid" the tax (£0 of course). All they check is that the original registration date is more than 40 years ago.
I also took the V112 "Declaration of exemption from MOT" form, at the same time. It's as simple as that -- they didn't ask for any proof of when the car was converted, which would have been the last 'significant change'. For the MOT exemption, it must be at least 30 years since the last significant change. I suppose they may check their own records to see if the wheelplan or engine size was ever changed when a V5 was updated, but I suspect they don't bother!

Thank you
That’s handy to know, I’ve got a tax disc from 1988 with it with tricycle on it, so it’s been over 30 years since it was converted

Re: Tax / mot exemption
I have also just got my 223 changed to historic vehicle status at the post office. The gov site says take V5, mot & insurance cert., but they never looked at any of it - I guess they have all that info online. I subsequently discovered I had paid for a years tax I did not need to pay for, but never got a refund as the gov site suggests I should!
Next step MOT exemption, but got a 3 years to go on that.
Good to see another 223 Lomax in Essex - a bit rare.
Anywhere near Billericay?

Insurance certificate is only required in Northern Ireland
