Fuel tank sender unit

Post by llanigraham » Sun Aug 07, 2016 6:21 pm

It appears that my sender unit has failed as my gauge is always showing full.
Had a fiddle today and can't work out how it comes out of the tank. I have undone the 3 screws and the unit comes out so far then gets stuck, no matter which way I turn it.
Am I I stuck with buying an expensive Citroen part or is there a suitable substitute?

Currently I just stick £10 worth in every 100 miles.

If it is a 2cv sender if you pull the wire off it and the gauge still reads full it's not the sender at fault.

It is the standard tank, and when I pull the wire off the gauge drops to zero.

Be very careful. Had similar issues about removal as gasket was leaking and I needed the sender removed to clean the areas around where the gasket should have sealed. When wiggling the sender unit to come out the flippin' plastic float came off. Had to drain all fuel down then play with a cable tie lasso and a long, thin screwdriver (when you can't see naff all down the hole once you start the operation) to try and retrieve the float. Only took an hour and a half!!!!!!
It will come out but needs easing at different angles. Oh, I now have a loop of stainless steel locking wire around the wire float retainer arm to keep it all in place if I ever have to remove it again.
Good luck.
