Re: How to wire in Boyer Bransden ignition kit
Hi,
I have a BB unit on my Dyane - simple enough for even me to wire up.
Four connectors coming out of the box:
1) -ve (ring terminal)- this goes to earth. Earth it to an engine fastening somewhere nearby.
2) Coil (female bullet) this goes to the LT side of the coil that isn't switched live from the ignition. Currently, on std points, this wire disappears off from the coil to the points box. Take the old wire off and connect this new wire from the BB unit to the coil. The old wire will be used in step 4.
3) +ve (spade connector?) You can connect this to the other LT side of the coil, as that's being fed +12v when the ignition is on. Splice this new wire into the old wire supplying 12v to the coil. If it's got a spade connector, cut this off and splice this, and the other LT connector into a single female bullet connector and re-attach to the coil
4) CB (male bullet) The wire you removed in step 2 connects to this and goes down to the points box.
Hope this helps. The advantage of wiring this in this manner, is that you can bypass the box in the future by switching two connectors only.
