gearchange conversion
I am considering changing the gear shift on my 224 to a floor change does anyone know if there is a kit available to do this or is it a "Heath Robinson" job ? are there any pitfalls to watch out for?

Re: gearchange conversion
John,
Before going to all the trouble of a gear change conversion, I found gear change was transformed by fitting a different shape gear knob (so you could feel which way the gear lever was pointing).
I turned my new knob from an aluminium off-cut to the shape of one from a D type Jaguar.

Re: gearchange conversion
Thanks for the comments guys but I was wondering if anyone out there had done this conversion, I have seen one on a 224 in Ellesmere in Shropshire but don't know the owner or how to get in touch with him I visit Ellesmere regularly so next time I'm there I'l have to flag him down !!

swapping the gear change from the panel to the floor is a bit of a marmite issue. Some members like myself have done it and find it worthwhile, whilst others feel that there is nothing wrong with the original gear change and it does not require changing. It all boils down to a matter of personal taste.
I do not know of any kit avialble to make the change, those of us who have done it, have manged to get hold of the floor gearchange from an Ami and with bending and cutting it can be changed.
If you go to page 6 of the Tech Talk Forum about half way down there is an earlier post on this subject and what is required. No doubt if you put the right combination in the index search engine you may find others.
Good Luck

Re: gearchange conversion
Thanks for your advice Peter, I've tried to PM you but it doesn't seem to be working. have you got any pictures of your conversion that you could let me have ? did you use an Ami gear change or did you find an alternative donor ?

Re: gearchange conversion
Interesting link Jack but it doesn't really help with my project to convert to a proper floor change, but thanks for the info, it may be of use to the guy I've given the task to !!

A 2005 Vauxhall Astra gear linkage looks like a good starting point to me...
